The pages on this site contain documentation for very old MS-DOS software,
    purely for historical purposes.
If you're looking for up-to-date documentation, particularly for programming,
you should not rely on the information found here, as it will be woefully
    out of date.

INPUT #, LINE INPUT # Statement Details
  ◄Summary► ◄Details► ◄Example► ◄Contents► ◄Index► ◄Back►
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
 [LINE] INPUT #filenumber%, stringvariable$

 Usage Notes
   ■ Any reference to INPUT #filenumber% or LINE INPUT #filenumber% where
filenumber% represents KYBD: or CONS: is not allowed with forms and
causes Visual Basic to generate the error message, "Invalid when forms
     are showing."

   ■ When using INPUT #, data items in the file should appear just as they
would if you were entering data in response to an INPUT statement.
Separate numbers with a space, carriage return, linefeed, or comma.
Separate strings with a carriage return or linefeed; leading spaces are
ignored. The end-of-file character will end either a numeric or string
     entry.

   ■ LINE INPUT # reads all characters in the sequential file up to a
carriage return. It then skips over the carriage return-linefeed
     sequence.

   ■ Use LINE INPUT # to read a text file a line at a time.
