  Syntax:    char *_ecvt( double value, int count, int *dec, int *sign );
             char *_fcvt( double value, int count, int *dec, int *sign );
             char *_gcvt( double value, int digits, char *buffer );
 
  Returns:   a pointer to the string converted from <value>.
