The pages on this site contain documentation for very old MS-DOS software, purely for historical purposes. If you're looking for up-to-date documentation, particularly for programming, you should not rely on the information found here, as it will be woefully out of date.

A C or C++ identifier must begin with an alphabetic character,
either uppercase or lowercase, or an underscore (_). After the
first character, an identifier can contain any combination of
letters and digits. A single identifier can be up to 247
     characters in length.

Both C and C++ are case sensitive; they treat "filename" and
     "FileName" as different identifiers.
