  Syntax:    unsigned _dos_open( char *filename, unsigned mode,
                                 int *handle );
             mode: _O_NOINHERIT, _O_RDONLY, _O_RDWR, _O_WRONLY,
                   _SH_COMPAT, _SH_DENYNO, _SH_DENYRD, _SH_DENYRW,
                   _SH_DENYWR
                   (may be joined by |)
 
  Returns:   0 if successful, or the DOS error code if not.
             errno: EACCES, EINVAL, EMFILE, ENOENT
