The compiler assumes a right parenthesis, ), after the first identifier it finds. It then attempts to compile the remainder of the line, which may result in another warning or error. The following example causes this warning and a fatal error: #if defined( ID1 ) || ( ID2 ) The compiler assumed a right parenthesis after ID1, then found a mismatched parenthesis in the remainder of the line. The following avoids this problem: #if defined( ID1 ) || defined( ID2 ) -♦-
