Using Formatting Flags for Links
 Example Up Contents Index Back
─────Using Formatting Flags for Links───────────────────────────────────────

You can use the \a and \v formatting flags to define explicit
links. The \a flag is used to anchor a position where a "hot
spot" for a link starts. The \v flag is used to insert invisible
text. This invisible text contains the context you are linking to.

     Linking from a Single Word

If you want to link from a single word to another topic, you do
not need to use the \a flag. Simply insert the context string you
are linking to immediately following the word, enclosing the
string in string flag immediately following the word you want
to link from. Following the flag, insert a context string for the
topic you want to link to. The second \v flag marks the end of
the context string──that is, the end of the invisible text.

     Linking from a Phrase

If you want to link from a phrase, you must use the \a flag to
define a hot spot. Use the \a flag at the beginning of the hot
spot. The first \v flag──that is, the beginning of invisible
text──marks the end of the hot spot.

For example, the following text links from "several words" to a
     topic with context string "string":

          several words

NOTE: A link must fit entirely on one line. You cannot continue
invisible or anchored text over a line break.
