The pages on this site contain documentation for very old MS-DOS software, purely for historical purposes. If you're looking for up-to-date documentation, particularly for programming, you should not rely on the information found here, as it will be woefully out of date.
<newlibrary> Field
                                             Up Contents Index Back
─────LIB────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

The <newlibrary> field specifies a name for the changed library
file. The default is <oldlibrary>. You can specify a full pathname
with the filename. LIB does not supply a default extension if you
     omit the extension.

LIB never changes the original library; it copies the library and
makes changes to the copy. (This prevents the loss of your
original file if you terminate LIB before the session is
finished.) You can name the new library in one of two ways:

        ■ If you specify <newlibrary>, the modified library is stored
under that name and the original library is preserved under
          its own name.

        ■ If you leave the field blank, LIB uses the original library
name for the new library but makes a backup copy of the
original library file with the extension .BAK.

When you run LIB, you need enough space on your disk for both the
original library file and the copy.
