INSERT TABLE OF CONTENTS

Procedures: <Creating a table of contents>

Use the Insert Table of Contents command to
compile a table of contents from coded entries or
from an outline. Word includes all visible
outline headings and ignores all body text. Each
outline level is a table of contents entry and is
indented accordingly.

■ One convenient way to create table of contents
entries is to let Word use existing outline
headings as table of contents entries.

■ Compile a document index before you compile the
table of contents. (The table of contents will
include an entry for the index.)

■ Each table of contents entry consists of a
table code (.c.), text, and an endmark. You
must format the table code as hidden text.
