The pages on this site contain documentation for very old MS-DOS software,
purely for historical purposes.

FILE FILE MANAGEMENT
Procedures: <Managing files>
Use the File File Management command to search
through any directory in your system to find
files that meet specific criteria.
■ If you know the location of a document, it is
quicker to open it with the File Open command.
■ To use the file management feature most
effectively, learn how your operating system
uses directories, filenames, and <paths>.
For information, see your DOS or OS/2
documentation.
■ When you use the file management feature,
follow these general guidelines:
* Make sure document summary information
includes information you want to use as the
key to a search.
* Choose Search in the File Management dialog
box to specify search criteria and display
the list of documents meeting the criteria.
* Once a list of documents is displayed, you
can select a single document to work with or
mark a group of documents.
■ Mark the documents you want to work with as
follows:
* Move the cursor to the document name and
press Spacebar. You can mark as many
documents as you like.
* Mark all displayed documents by pressing
Ctrl+Spacebar.
* To remove a mark from a document, move the
cursor to the document name and press
Spacebar.
* To remove the mark from all marked documents,
press Ctrl+Spacebar.
■ Word adds an asterisk(*) at the beginning of
the document name to show that the document has
been marked.
