Important Notice
The pages on this site contain documentation for very old MS-DOS software,
purely for historical purposes.
If you're looking for up-to-date documentation, particularly for programming,
you should not rely on the information found here, as it will be woefully
out of date.

Edit menu, Read Only command («noedit»)
Function ◄Noedit►
Choose Read Only to toggle the PWB no-edit state. When the no-edit
state is on, an 'R' appears in the status bar and a bullet appears
next to Read Only as follows:
┌─────────────────────┐
│• Read Only │
└─────────────────────┘
When the no-edit state is turned on, you cannot modify the file.
NOTE: The Read Only command has no effect on the read-only
attribute of files on disk.
To toggle the no-edit state for individual disk files, use the
function sequence Meta Noedit («meta» «noedit»).
See: Noedit
PWB starts up with no-edit turned on when you use the /R command-
line option. Choose Read Only to turn off the no-edit state and
allow file modification.
By default, PWB allows you to modify files marked read-only on
disk. To have PWB automatically turn on the no-edit state for disk
read-only files, set the Editreadonly switch to No.
