you should not rely on the information found here, as it will be woefully
out of date.

FORMAT APPLY STYLE
Procedures: <Applying styles to your document>
Use the Format Apply Style command to apply
<styles> to the <active> document.
■ The standard formatting for a Word document is
determined by the <default> style sheet,
NORMAL.STY. To apply styles from another style
sheet, the <style sheet> must be attached to
the document. Use the Format Attach Style Sheet
command to attach a style sheet.
■ The quickest way to apply a style is to use a
<key code>. Key codes are optional; if a
style has a key code, the key code is shown in
parentheses next to the style I.D. in the Apply
Style dialog box. You can also apply styles
with the Format Apply Style command or the
Style box on the <ribbon>.
■ Formatting applied with the Format commands or
the <speed formatting keys> overrides style
formatting. If you want to apply a style to
text that has been manually formatted, select
the text, remove the formatting, and then apply
the style.
■ Use the <style bar> to identify applied
styles.
