ADDING LEADER CHARACTERS USING THE RULER
Overview: <View Ruler command>
Leader characters fill the spaces before a tab
stop. Word has four types of <leader characters>
you can use:
Blank leader (no leader)
________________Underscore leader
----------------Hyphen leader
................Dot leader
To add leader characters to tab stops:
Using the mouse:
1. Display the ruler by clicking the ruler/ribbon
icon.
2. Move the cursor to the paragraph you want
to work with or select a group of paragraphs.
3. Click the far left end of the ruler until you
see the leader character you want.
4. Click the tab stop you want to add leader
characters to.
Using the keyboard:
1. Move the cursor to the paragraph you want
to work with or select a group of paragraphs.
2. Press Ctrl+Shift+F10 to activate and move the
cursor to the ruler.
3. Using the Right Arrow and Left Arrow keys,
move the cursor to the tab stop you want to add
leader characters to.
4. Press the key for the leader character you want
(Spacebar, Period, Hyphen, or Underscore).
5. Press Enter.
To remove leader characters, use either of the
above procedures, substituting a blank (Spacebar)
for the leader character.
