The pages on this site contain documentation for very old MS-DOS software,

INSERT ANNOTATION
Procedures: <Inserting an annotation>
Use the Insert Annotation command to insert
an annotation at the cursor. Annotations are
numbered in the order of insertion and appear
with footnotes at the bottom of each page or at
the end of the document.
■ Use the View Footnotes/Annotations command to
see annotations in a pane.
■ The default format for annotation marks and
text is normal text. Change format using the
Format Character or Format Paragraph commands.
You can also modify and use the automatic
paragraph style, Annotation, for annotation
text, and/or the automatic character style,
Annotation Reference, for annotation marks.
■ To print annotation text either on the same
page with the reference mark or at the end of
the section, choose the Format Section command
and the Place Footnotes option.
